Just want to re-hash some (relatively) ancient history ...

I think both of the following two events were in the time span of 1980 - 1985. (Sorry I cannot be more precise. If anyone wants to dig up the exact years, go ahead).

Lockheed used to build commercial jets (the L-1011). The day that Lockheed announced they were just going to "forget the whole thing," Wall Street loved it, and the stock was up something like $40 or $50 in one day (on a starting price of roughly $110 or so, I think).

Texas Instruments used to make personal computers. The day they announced "no more," their stock went up something like $40 in a day (on a starting price of about $120 or so, I think).

We'll see if Qualcomm can get anything out of their possible change of heart regarding the infrastructure division.
