One distinction to make is this:

During the August downturn, fund investors (like myself) got burned badly.
I'd bet daytraders took much smaller losses, or made money shorting.
I surmize that shorting is something that FEW fund investors or funds themselves do.
Funds don't naviagte down markets nearly as well as a shortterm trader can.

Daytrade or not, I through with funds for good (except maybe index funds)
