Hello

I am new to this thread and have read it for the last several days. I currently have a modem connection to the Internet and believe that high-speed data transfer into the homes is what most will be looking for within a couple years – and therefore, there should be enormous opportunity in this sector.

I am new enough to this subject where I have not grasped the implications of several of the arguments detailed on the thread. Also, I am considering making ATHM one of my core holdings but first need to understand the risks associated with how the choice of one technology over another would affect this company's prospects for appreciation. I have several comments and questions that I am hoping someone can or comment on or answer, or provide a link that will help me learn on my own. Please forgive me if some are “amateurish”.

My understanding is that ATHM is well positioned to provide some type of “electrical infrastructure” (not hardware) that will allow computers equipped with a cable modem (or even fiber optic) connection to access video, voice (analog or digital), and data over the Internet at high speeds.

1. How does the television cable company fit into the process?
2. Do they (telephone cable) essentially take the place of a traditional ISP by linking on one end to the Internet backbone and on the other end to a home computer?
3. What is the technology provided by ATHM?
4. And how does the actual Internet Protocol that eventually gets adopted as a standard affect ATHM's involvement in whatever their current role is?

PS The only way I know of to submit text to this or any other SI thread is to “respond” to a message. However, since this message really is not a “response” to the previous, I would like to know how to post text without “responding” (ie. A message listed as To ryno, and From ryno).

Thanks,
Ryno
