Sergio, more on the Brazil damages, condensed from a Associated press article.

While brazil appears headed for a deepening recession, many of the big losers this week had major exposure to Brazil and across Latin America . It also appears many investors sold there stock in companies that have little or no business in Latin America, creating some bargains for quick investors to capitalize on.

Many economists fear Brazil's difficulties will bleed into Argentina and Chile, and eventually to Mexico which would be bad news for U.S. stocks. A recession would make Mexican exports (things like manufactured goods and textile) cheaper then those from the U.S.
If it goes long enough, it could prompt U.S. manufactures to shift production south of the border, which would cut jobs and consumption here and potentially ripple throughout the world. The U.S. is the engine of the world economy if the U.S. slows down, it presents a major problem.
