Requiem in Pace.

Yggdrasil also comes with a boot floppy for the people who don't want to go through headaches on bootstrapping the initial load. It also has a 166 page installation manual in hardcopy. Since 1995 their whole system could be run off the CD and started from the floppy provided.

I wish they would upgrade their offering as in 1995 they were state of the art. I have heard rumours that they are coming out with something soon. It was supposed to be out in the summer of 98 but it had some bugs.

Unfortunately it looks like they have become enmeshed with false starts like their browser Arena, which was still born and does not work very well. It showed promise but could not compete with Mozilla.

They had some things which were ahead of their time, like the Andrew multi media system and network/dialer configuration from X. I could not get the network stuff to work unfortunately.

I consider The Linux Bible to be the model for all Linux Manuals. If a more complete reference to Unix was included and it was brought up to date it would be the best of the breed. As it is I got more out of Linux Secrets concering the new versions of the software but I still find stuff in The Linux Bible that is not clear in other manuals.
