Well - as a chemist - I think like an engineer. I subordinate the emotional to the operational. (Except when I drive among IDIOTS... <ggg>) Flowers - cut ones dying in a vase - always struck me as tragic and wasteful. I could never figure out why my momma liked'em. I decided it was the result of some form of extortion. (Don't forget I was ten and quite the little Vulcan.) The other thing that struck me about the cut flower business was that it was quite a racket. Generating a demand for something nobody really needs, but nonetheless becomes a formal requirement for expressing a social grace. Funerals are the same sort of racket. I'm DEAD dammit; don't shell out for a good box and stone. If you have taht sorta money - why didn't we spend it in, like, Hawai'i or Vegas? :-)
