Wow, I had not thought of that. The only exclusions that I have made in my trading history is the Tobacco companies. I don't want to profit from a company whose products have no benefit to the customers other than the ending of withdrawal symptoms. I have had no problems investing in companies that have just had layoffs, perhaps because I have survived a number of layoffs in a company where that was the only choice for survival.

The gambling machine analogy comes more from the idea of wanting to have made a positive contribution during my time on the planet and my feeling that while the gambling machines aren't the worst thing, perhaps I could make a more positive contribution elsewhere.

I have always thought about investing in a positive sense in that as an investor I feel I profit from choosing quality companies which gains stock value as the company grows sales and profits. As I understand day trading, the focus is more on determining the most likely short term price direction and reacting accordingly. Doesn't this have less to do with recognizing quality and instead predicting market psychology? In other words, do day traders provide a useful service and is this a profession in which to be proud? Or is that found elsewhere?
