Croc,

I've actually been thinking of buying a Folbot... I have a very nice Canadian-made fiberglass sea kayak, but it only seats one and it is difficult to bring along on exploratory trips. The open-cockpit folding boats would let me bring my kids along on trips near home, and would also be something I could bring along to some of the far-flung regions.

A lot of serious folding-kayak guys seem to sort of look down on the Folbot, though; they say they are a little clumsy in the water, among other criticisms. The only folding boat I've ever paddled was a Feathercraft, deliriously beautiful boat, but at $4000 plus it ought to be. If I had a chance to paddle the Folbot I could make up my own mind, but the only way I could get one sent here would be to buy it. Maybe I should scour the net for kayak chat sites and try to talk to some people who have them. I'm a little worried about the durability factor as well; the skin might not take too well to coral, and it's tough to use a boat much without scraping now and then. Have you heard any user reviews on the Folbot?

Steve
