I agree with Victor and this shouldn't really be a debate. It is part of the definitions of the DIFFERENT types of ananlysis. Technical analysis is the study of patterns and fundamental analysis is the study of external and internal factors. They are very different and there is no similarity in their true form. Many people will do both, but victor is correct IMHO. If you spend some of your time studying the fundamental analasys of whatever, then that is what you are doing, not studying the technical analysis of said subject.
