Steve,

<Have you ever looked in a camera, thought "that would be perfect if I took 2 steps backward".... and done it, without thinking about what was (or wasn't) behind you?>

But, of course!!

With me, it seems to be backing up, only to be clobbered on the head by a tree branch... or coming remarkably close to the edge of a steep drop off of a big rock. Although, let's see... there were those angry wasps emerging from the big nest over my canoe this fall,... and then last summer, I probably came within 2 seconds of being bitten by one or both of two rather large black snakes that were coiled together sunning themselves on a rock as I photographed them from my canoe at a distance of approximately 3 feet... And don't let me forget trying to photograph the two immense "guardian geese" of one of my favourite creeks. Two gargantuan Toulouse geese from a nearby farm stand guard on a pair of flat canoe-height rocks in the only narrow "passage" through one section of the creek. They hiss and attempt to strike at me whenever I pass them by. Alas, trying to photograph them has, thus far, been impossible... being somewhat akin to Odysseus trying to stop for a photo shoot while passing between the Scylla and Charybdis... ;-}

But my most perilous misadventures seem to occur when I'm photographing architecture. I have been known to wander aimlessly about, tilting my camera at strange angles while venturing out into city traffic, or bumping into pedestrians or telephone poles, or stepping backward into the nothingness of an unseen stairwell...

Odd as it may seem... I'm still around to talk about such things...
