iMac falls to #3 in December retail sales

Now consider the 28% margins over the last quarter. It would have been better for Apple to drop the price of the iMac to $1199 before the holiday season and maintain their number one sales ranking.

Instead they chose to squeeze a few more dollars from costumers, just like the Apple of old.
