well it sounds like you only saw half the product. The football is a brown plastic w/ a leather look - BUT there is supposed to be a 'leather' cover that zips up over the ball for the 'real' football look. As for ruggedness - I know of a guy that has had one for over a yr and whose kids play football with it. Still works.The plastic tee stand is cheap looking- need some work here.
