Yes, I have first hand experience with both SAVLY and Kenan. My company has purchased both and I have had detailed interaction with both.

Kenan (the owner) is an MIT teacher and recruits his students to work for Kenan Systems. Because of the MIT influence, the architecture of the system and performance cannot be match by anyone in the industry. The negative has always been that their product lacked functionality but they made up for it with extensive APIs. It will be fairly easy to add the functionality because the foundation is so sound. The only negative is how will MIT intellectuals handle having their product improvements driven by LU and the customer.

SALVY has the largest market share because they were the first and only for quite some time. Their product is poorly architected and is rooted in its original AS400 methodology. ATT forced them to produce a UNIX version but it is basically just a conversion of the original product. SAVLY also underestimates every effort. The UNIX implementation was a year behind schedule and they added an order entry module that was so basic, that no one could use it except to order basic services (not the high value customer set telephony companies are targeting for their product).

Why I like the Kenan acquisition is that it fills a major gap that LU had in its software product offering.

BTW, I agree that the purchase of Kenan was better for LU than ASND.
