BillyG, Went down to the local bookstore and bought the Feb. issue of Guide to home theater mag. Won't type in all the text, but here are a couple excerpts....Though this is the Feb. issue it was written months ago....The column is entitled behind the scenes...
Opening..
Many pundits have said that the computer will never make it into the family room, where the TV reigns supreme......But all it takes is one or two killer applications or technologies, and the consumer-electronics world will get flipped on its head.
"Carl Stork, general manager of PC Hardware Strategy at Microsoft, says that "the DVx explore chip, with support for MPEG encoding, is likely to deliver profound new capabilities in the way today's analog TV is handled in the PC. Rather than just displaying TV in a window, the PC platform will be able to dramatically enhance the TV-watching experience by helping consumers to personalize their TV viewing in a way that suits them."
Then the next sentence transitions to Umesh Padval, president of C-Cube's Semiconductor division, talking about the DVx.
So both of these individuals were in the same room, likely at the same time giving this interview...
The DVx gives the box makers a new reason to be in the living room, where they haven't made many inroads yet. They need the DVx.
Hope they make it look better than a tower.
So which box makers are likely to be first out of the gate with this product. How come no leaks from them? |
