Thread: I have been following vod for some time. Have not yet invested. I am having trouble reconciling the huge investments being made in "ground" communiocations......fiber optic, state of the art cables that provide huge bandwidth ( e.g.,qwst, iixc....in the U.S.; T, gblx, et al....transocean..pacific and atlantic; vytl , sprint, et al....Europe), and the same kind of expenditures facing vod, cable and wireless, et al....all for wireless communications. It seems this confrontation between two competing technologies will ultimately bring about huge losses for SOMEBODY. What am I missing? Is there room for both? Or do they not compete? Does not wireless provide the same services, or at least will soon do so? I am a substantial investor (substantial, that is, for me; really small potatoes for the big guys)in VYTL, which has bet the farm on their European network of fiber optic cable....operational this quarter. Frankly, vodafon's size and dominance of wireless in Europe worries me. What will be the impact on "ground" facilities of this kind?
I realize I am asking for lots of help. If the question is too time-consuming, or too much off topic, tell me, and I'll move on. Many thanks, Jack Gibson |
