You will always have a hard time to prove a trader wrong on his investment strategy... but he is. I think it has to do with the idea that if you work hard (trade) you'll do better.

Was it Warren Buffett who said something like "traders make pennies, long-term investors make dollars?" But a trader who makes a good yearly income through trading is doing just fine. Even if he could do better through long-term investing, he might be stressed and nervous because that style of investing doesn't fit his personality. I'm unable to trade without feeling stressed and nervous, so I'm a buy-and-hold guy from 'way back. Fortunately for me, it's worked just fine.

Reading through the archives, I've seen a post by Chuzzlewit that shows the difference between trading and buy-and-hold on Dell stock. If you just miss the highs and lows a few times (easy to do, market timing is really hard to get right) your gains relative to buy-and-hold evaporate. Great post.
