Not only that, but Amazon in particular has been granted special status by the American exchange, which allows the Amazon option market maker to ignore the standard rules on bid/ask spreads and execution timeliness. In other words, they've literally given them a license to rip you off.

From what I'm hearing the number of options market-makers in the Internet stocks is dwindling because of the volatility, which is causing a loss in liquidity.
