MileHigh,

I can't argue with you. I thought that the group would fall apart fairly quickly without a significant leader for the effort, but it doesn't seem to be doing that yet. If it looks like there's a real product there, I wouldn't be surprised to see AMD and Cyrix support it in order to keep improving the low-end products without having to raise prices. But I still wouldn't worry too much if that happened, because Intel is driving this bus (all puns intended) for the long term. I would really be scared, though, if Intel announced support for it. That would be a major statement since they'd be giving up their warrants, etcetera. Very, very scared.

I was talking to the ASIC-designing buddy that I've mentioned before (he works on chip-to-chip interfaces). He indicates that DDR is a dead-end technology, but he hasn't read the Rambus white papers and data sheets yet in enough detail to be able to identify the exact differences. On the other hand, a lot of technologies have had their lives extended through new, surprise advances. Anyway, I've invited him to the lunch, if he wants to come. Hopefully I'll have something to add soon from him.
