El: ...please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Ted said that by next year there will be 147 million people using the internet and that by next Christmas we'll be able to talk directly through our computers to sales people at the various shopping sites. the term "cocooning" was in reference to those people who are currently or will be shopping exclusively via the internet!

Just finished watching the computer segment - you are correct about what Ted said. I have heard the term "cocooning" before associated with people who do just about everything without leaving home - work, shop and communicate.

I also thought that the following "statistics" were interesting -

By the year 2001, PCs costing over $1,500 will only be 18% of the market, less than $1,500 will be 40% and the other 42% will be PC "devices" like set-top boxes and palm PCs. Sub-$400 PCs will push household PC penetration from 50% to about 65%, but after that PC devices will be what drives the market. New e-commerce accounts which are being opened at a rate of 1500 a month will be growing at a rate of 5,000 a month by 2000.
