Re planetary alignments: I am not an astronomer, but there does seem to be something a little off with the picture here. The asteroid belt is between Mars and Jupiter, no? Now if the planets align, by far the greatest planetary masses are outside the asteroid belt, no? Why would this pull asteroids into the inner solar system? If the alignment is on the far side of the sun, what of it? If you compare the mass of the sun to the combined mass of the planets, the difference wouldn't be a gnat bite on an elephant. Doesn't add up.

Would welcome correction from anybody who knows their astronomy.
