I have to admit that Mr. Farah's past articles certainly present a serious conviction for preserving freedom. On many of articles I find myself agreeing.
What I fail to understand is how he makes the leap from a rumoured National Guard MOBEX to Martial Law and permanent stripping of our civil rights.
I think most people have to agree that it is quite a leap.
But if accurate, what it clearly shows is a failure to clearly think out the repercussions of trying to conceal what most sane people would consider a basic necessity for readiness of the NG. In fact, I would think that most people would wonder more about why THE NG HASN'T DONE A MOBEX EARLIER. They are afterall, a critical element of our military forces. What have they been doing since WWII?? <VBG>
Assuming the story is true, and I'm not willing to say that yet, I would hope that the confidentiality was due to desire to prevent panic over Y2K and not to conceal something untoward.
Either way NGB is now on the hotseat either to disavow or explain themselves.
What I would recommend is that you all write your congressmen and especially your governor. After all, the governor is the CinC of his state's guard until troops are federalized.
Governors don't like to be stripped of their authority.
But the key to making it through Y2K together and in good order still centers around helping one another and preventing anarchy from breaking out. The Authorities will probably have their hands full managing any disruptions and could probably use all the help they can get.
Volunteer... then you'll be on the inside looking out.
And btw, the minute people like Mr. Farah are prevented from expressing their opinion, whether hype or truth or a mixture of both,
that is when the American people lose their freedom and ability to alter national policies. If there is a World conspiracy, freedom of speech and the means to express it would have to be the first to go.
Given the instinctive importance US society places upon the freedom of speech, any general abridgement of it would be a strong warning sign.
