I'm beginning to think in terms of the next Comdex show, the Spring Comdex in Chicago, April 19-22nd. This Comdex show, a somewhat smaller version of the Las Vegas Fall Comdex, is the next opportunity for OEM's to roll out new products in a highly public forum. I understand products announced at these shows by large OEM's are usually ready for immediate distribution and sale. If Valence and the OEM's are ready, it is a plausible occasion for a Valence battery to show up in a laptop or a Palm Pilot-type device. And hopefully, they're all about ready 'cause the timing of the show is great.
If Jacques is right about Lev's intent, however, we will not see any Valence announcement of a purchase order prior to the show -- which is to say, prior to an OEM's announcement of its product incorporating the battery, whenever that should be. For direct evidence from Valence itself, we will apparently have to wait for the 10K for the fiscal 1999 year (ending March 31, 1999) where inventory, perhaps revenue, and burn-rate numbers will indicate production and sales. Unfortunately, these numbers will not be released until the end of June, if history is a guide.
As a result, my curiosity about Betsy (?) Truax's (at FRB) comment about shipments of production samples beginning "in earnest" in January is beginning to rise again. Can someone with a good relation with her give her a call and get an update? She may be our only hope for divining what may be in this quarter's 10Q before June!
