SingTel Mobile Abandons CDMA Network
Launch

RDSL

18 January 1999

SingTel Mobile has abandoned plans to launch a new
CDMA network due to slow subscriber growth. The firm
called a tender for the new network in November 1997 and
the six bidders have been informed of its decision not to
award the contract. SingTel Mobile insists that its current
1.1 million lines of GSM capacity is sufficient to handle
expected subscriber growth over the next couple of years.
The decision not to award the contract does not mean that
the firm is abandoning CDMA technology.
