All, I'm new to this thread. Exar looks interesting to me because its one of the only value plays in the mixed signal area.

I'm concerned about the declining revenue and margins, especially in view of the 30 to 40% revenue growth that occured in the mixed signal business in 96. As I see it the mixed signal industry has taken a major shift toward systems integration. Analog devices is concentrating on developing their DSP's to address just this change. This change results in a lot of the stand alone Analog products becoming a small section of a system on a chip. It seems to me that companies need to be very end product focused to survive this trend.
As I see it companies like Mirochip and Atmel could take a lot of Exar's low end stand alone product business by just incorporating A2D's on their microcontrollers.
