and one has to wonder why the corporate sector would be motivated to buy the hot expensive machines as opposed to the low cost but equally effective machines.
Earlie, this statement flies in the face of DELL's success. They sell primarily to businesses and the government. And they don't even have a sub $1000 offering. You must remember that businesses are on 2-5 year upgrade cycles. So when they do buy, they will rarely buy low end for fear of being obsolete that much sooner. This has always been the case, and is not changing now. The fact that the application you are looking for, doesn't exist right now, means little. If it shows up 6 months down the road, businesses have to ready be just in case that app requires more horsepower. They will continue to hedge bets here, and not buy low end.
Answer is that they aren't and won't, in spite of what the nerds try to suggest. M.I.S. types are moving up the learning curve. (g)
Hey, I'm one of those nerds <g>. But don't give the MIS guys to much credit. They have much more at stake buying low end and getting burned, than buying mid to high end, and covering there butts.
