Here is a good post from AOL regarding a conversation with Karen today. "Subj: Re:RE: Karen Date: 97-01-29 20:05:14 EST From: RRomano617 I talked with Karen at Ampex today. The Karen I talked with today was very informative, unlike the Karen of a month ago. Don't be afraid to give her a buzz and report back to us. Hal for your info the DST 810 shipped in the fourth quarter and the DST 812 will ship in the first quarter. Karen said that there probably won't be any info released with the earnings regarding KM. Looking ahead the 10-k will be released in early March which she said will contain updated info on KM. The annual meeting is set for May 16. In her opinion Maxtor is fully commited to a KM disk drive program. She thought that we will see KM drives by the end of the year. IMO Maxtor alone will not do the job for us, we need support from the other drive makers. I might be stretching this, but from our conversation it sounded as though Seagate was involved with KM. The name Seagate did come up as a large MR player and she fully agreed with me. She also quoted these numbers for me: inductive heads with KM : Increase of 38% Karen went on to say that at first they weren't sure KM would work with MR but have achieved an increase of 20% which they believe they can increase even more. She also said, "Do you know we invented MR heads." Another wasted opportunity!!!!! Gus, she would not give me a timetable for KM and MR!!!! You have said 8 to 12 months. We'll that's about all "
