CommNet Cellular Signs US$35 Million Deal with Nortel Networks

For Network Modernization, Software Upgrades

DALLAS, Jan. 19 /CNW/ - CommNet Cellular Inc. has selected Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL) to modernize its wireless networks under terms of a three-year, US$35 million agreement.

The agreement includes upgrading Nortel Networks' DMS- MTX SuperNode digital switches, system software, and cell sites.

CommNet Cellular currently offers analog wireless service in all of its markets using Nortel Networks' equipment. The network modernization and software upgrades will help CommNet Cellular expand its subscriber service offerings, and prepare for future transition to digital service.

System software from Nortel Networks to be installed enhances subscriber safety and security while generating new revenues and improved network operating efficiencies for operators. It also includes CALEA, E-911, local number portability enhanced fraud prevention and over-the-air service provisioning.
