Research in Motion Licenses Security Technology from Diversinet Corp. To Ensure Secure Wireless Communications
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 1999-- Diversinet's digital certificates will be incorporated into RIM
Inter@ctive Pager
Diversinet Corp. (Nasdaq:DVNTF)(CDN:DVNT), a leading technology provider for authentication and authorization, announced today that Research In Motion Limited (TSE:RIM) has licensed security technology from Diversinet for the advanced RIM Inter@ctive Pager.
The announcement was made at the RSA Data Security Conference in San Jose, California.
Under the terms of the agreement, Diversinet will supply its patented digital certificate authentication technology combined with Certicom Corp.'s advanced data security technology, providing strong, fast encryption for secure wireless transmission.
By adding Diversinet's technology, users of wireless communications devices ensure privacy of their messages. Diversinet's security technology is easy to install and use, providing a cost-effective solution for secure transmissions involving corporate data or online commerce over wireless devices. At the same time, the technology requires little memory and provides rapid throughput of data.
"This agreement will open new opportunities for Diversinet to provide security technology for electronic commerce transactions and Internet access over wireless communications devices," said Nagy Moustafa, president and CEO of Diversinet Corp. "Our digital certificates are significantly smaller than other available technology, enabling us to offer a streamlined solution for the next generation of wireless, electronic commerce and networking applications."
Diversinet's security technology simplifies digital authentication and confidentiality by reducing the burden of computing and decoding long strings of numbers. Through its family of information security products, Diversinet ensures the privacy and authenticity of data communication across corporate networks, intranets and the Internet.
"Diversinet's PKI technology will enhance the capabilities of our two-way pager," said Jim Balsillie, Chairman and Co-CEO of Research In Motion. "An efficient security infrastructure is an essential component for applications such as E-commerce that require certification and authentication. Our relationship with Diversinet will enable us to provide a broader range of secure wireless enterprise solutions for our customers."
The RIM Inter@ctive Pager operates over the Cantel(R) AT&T(TM) wireless data network in Canada and the BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network(SM) in the United States. Some details of the relationship with RIM were previously announced by Diversinet last March. About Diversinet
