01/19/1999 - Windsor, Ontario May Use Ballard Fuel Cell Buses Windsor, Ontario, Canada - Fuel cell-powered buses built by Ballard Power Systems may soon be rolling on the streets of Windsor, Ontario, reports CBC News. Transit officials from the suburb of Toronto recently met with Ballard representatives and are seeking to work out the financial details, according to City Councilman Rick Limoges. Ballard is already testing its fuel-cell buses in regular transit service in Chicago and Vancouver. Fuel cells are electrochemical devices that convert hydrogen into electricity, heat and pure water vapor - while producing no other smog-forming emissions. The electricity produced is then used to power electric drive motors.
