Northern Telecom Signs VAR Agreement to Resell OSI's NetExpert(R) Products Worldwide For Unified Service, Network and Element Management FOLSOM, Calif., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Objective Systems Integrators (Nasdaq: OSII - news) today announced that Northern Telecom, Inc., (Nortel) (NYSE: NT - news), has signed a value-added reseller agreement (VAR) to supply OSI's service and network management solutions to service providers worldwide. The three-year agreement includes Northern Telecom Limited, its subsidiaries and distributors. It is designed to strengthen Nortel's ability to manage heterogeneous networks, reducing customers' integration costs and network implementation times.
''Although many network equipment providers position their element managers as network management systems, they don't support other vendors' equipment,'' said Dan Line, vice president, OSI global alliances. ''As a result, service providers spend a lot of time and money trying to integrate such systems. In partnering with OSI, Nortel can help their customers move away from these single-purpose solutions by offering a cohesive approach to systems management.''
To supply the highest quality network solutions, Nortel and OSI will continue cooperating on a variety of development and marketing activities. OSI software is being developed, tested and demonstrated on a live network at Nortel's Richardson, Texas, laboratories, giving OSI access to the latest Nortel equipment. The companies will also demonstrate products jointly at trade shows and user conferences and cooperate on technical and sales training.
Debra Katz, Dataquest's principal analyst and program manager, public network management, said, ''This partnership affords advantages to both parties -- OSI gains an extended sales force and distribution channel and thus the potential for greater market penetration, and Nortel will now be able to offer an extended solution set that will enable it to be considered more of a one-stop shopping provider in its market.''
OSI's solutions are built on the NetExpert® operations support system (OSS) framework, which combines the efficiency of off-the-shelf solutions with the flexibility to customize for individual business needs. NetExpert enables Nortel's customers to deploy networks faster and to preserve the value of their investments by managing multivendor systems independent of technology or standards.
Line said, ''While OSI already supports much of Nortel's equipment, this agreement makes continued compatibility one of our highest priorities. Customers will gain from the resulting stability and dependability of our product sets. In addition, the streamlined sales model we've developed jointly with Nortel ensures a quick response to customer requests for information and proposals,''
