tom,

<<Well, they did beat estimates, and I don't see any buried lumps of coal in the release - though I don't know whether the revenue figures are are at estimates or not.

Perhaps Stitch can comment?

I think I can speak objectively since I am short WDC, but it seems to me that the results are certainly no worse than neutral for the stock price - unless the street was expecting a lot better.

My guess is that while WDC beat the mean the recent run up was in anticipation of a surprise to the upside considerably greater then the results. Key now is the CC and forward looking statements. Unfortunately the release lacks much in the way of bullish statements about the future though I note that Haggerty is more prone not to beat the drum in that fashion. Nevertheless I think your (our) short positions are in good shape now. Took mine at the open today.

For a quick view here is a Qtr to Qtr comparison to SEG further to my previous comments. My apologies for not doing the following in a nice table but I have not figured out how to do that in a post here.

WDC/SEG

Unit shipments - +17%/+16%
Revenue - +11%/+16%
P/L - +57%/+350%
Cash - -12%/+19%
Inventory as % of Revenue -24%/-23%

FWIW

Best,
Stitch
