GENERAL MOTORS CORP expects its sales to grow this year and aims
to boost its market share in the Asia-Pacific region to 10% by
2010, a German newspaper reported on Sunday. "1999 will...be a
better year for GM," company chairman Jack Smith said in an
interview with newspaper Welt am Sonntag, without specifying sales
and earnings forecasts. GM aimed to increase its market share in
the Asia-Pacific region from four percent to 10% by 2010, he told
the newspaper. GM said last October it lost $809 mln in the 3Q
after crippling strikes at two Michigan parts plants shut down
operations for much of the summer, costing it $1.2 bln. (Reuters
