many of the people who "work with computers" are pure software types, who don't know, need to know, or care, about how computers actually work at the electrical / physical / systems hardware level. the fact that they don't know about a relatively esoteric - sorry, but it's true - thing such as RMBS, doesn't mean that anyone is keeping anything under a hat.
indeed, there is so much to know about how, really, a "simple PC works" - chip design, fab, board layout, power distribution, drivers, operating systems, manufacturing and assembly, test, ... it's amazing we can talk about the things at all.
of course, it's true for cars to. but they're just computers on wheels :-)
