Road Runner, an online service jointly owned by TIME WARNER INC
HOLDING CO, MEDIAONE GROUP, MICROSOFT CORP and COMPAQ COMPUTER,
said Tuesday it had 180,000 customers by year-end 1998. The online
service said that with fourth-quarter customer demand exceeding
expectations, weekly installations were averaging more than 4,000
new customers a week. Road Runner said its largest cluster of
customers is in the northeastern United States, while San Diego
ranks as the largest single urban Road Runner deployment, with
