I have no specific information on any plans by Ross to sell 64 bit systems, however their current work stations use an S-bus that can support both 32 and 64 bit data paths.
I would think the current real-world price/performance advantage of 32
bit systems will only last as long as the shortage of 64 bit software
persists. The future has to be with 64 bit systems, I'm sure Ross must be even more acutely aware of this than we are!
The Java language would seem at this point to be the future in operating systems because it offers portability, flexability, combines inherant internet compatability with the ability to easily upgrade programs online and it has compact code.
In the short-term both Ross and Sun may be right in what they are doing. In the long term Ross will have to do something diffrent.
Ross is much closer to the problems than we are. I can only hope his solutions are even better than I can imagine!
Food for thought!
Best wishes, Dave.
