What about a company like this. Appears to be privately owned. Owners could make a small fortune. Compaq gets a network. Of course this is just an example, and not a recommendation.

If you look at this company closely, the idea it is based on may a threat to the high flying Internet stocks. Free internet access for customers with the owners making their profits from advertising just like TV. Sounds good for the consumer, but not so good for competition. Too bad there is not a local access number in my neighborhood yet. I keep checking for one. <g>
