I saw this press release today from Vicom. I guess I got curious when Vicom mentions they are a leading supplier of SANs. It states that its solution is based on storage routers and is a cost effective way to create a fibre fabric.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 1999--Vicom Systems (www.vicom.com) today announced that IBM Global Services now will provide Vicom storage network customers with Call Center support for all equipment on the storage network, regardless of manufacturer. This agreement will be combined with an existing services agreement with IBM to provide on-site repair for Vicom products.... Vicom Systems, Inc., Mountain View, CA, is a leading supplier of Storage Area Networks (SAN's), with more than 2,000 systems installed worldwide. Based on innovative storage routers, Vicom's Storage Area Networks provide a new generation of RAID storage systems, and a cost-effective means to create Fibre Channel storage fabrics. Vicom's storage products and systems are compatible with all NT and Unix platforms, and compliant with all peripheral connectivity standards, enabling storage area networks to accommodate a mix of incompatible hosts and multiple storage device standards. With a Vicom SAN, data center managers can migrate upward to new high-performance data storage paradigms while improving the utilization of existing equipment.
