Micron/Comteq Team Awarded Treasury-wide Blanket Purchase Agreement
NAMPA, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1999--Micron Electronics, Inc. today announced that it recently commenced delivery on $27 million worth of desktop and laptop computer systems to the Internal Revenue Service under a blanket purchase agreement (BPA) awarded to Comteq Federal, Inc., a reseller and distributor to the IRS. The BPA, initiated by the IRS, specifies delivery of Micron Electronics products and is available to the entire U.S. Treasury Department. The first purchase order for $27 million worth of products is being deployed to update technology used by IRS field auditors. This is the largest single IRS award for a PC hardware project to date.

For its initial delivery, the IRS selected 9,900 of Micron's top-of-the-line systems: 6,600 Micron Transport Trek 2 laptop computers, and 3,300 Micron Millennia 400 desktop systems.
The Transport Trek(TM) 2 systems feature a 266 MHz Intel processor, 14.1'' display, 96 MB of RAM, 4.3 GB hard drive, 24x max. CD-ROM drive, floppy drive, internal modem, Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0, and Microsoft Office Professional. The Trek 2 systems also include a four-year portable exchange limited warranty that allows users to exchange a non-working system for a new one the next day.
The Millennia® 400 systems feature a 400 MHz Intel processor, 17'' (15.9'' viewable) Sony Trinitron display, 96 MB of RAM, 10 GB hard drive, 32x max. CD-ROM drive, 16 MB Diamond Viper 550 TNT AGP video card, 3 Com modem, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Office Professional, keyboard and mouse. The Millennia desktop systems also include a four-year, on-site limited warranty.
Both laptop and desktop systems are configured at the Micron factory with additional software specified by the IRS. The systems will also feature Micron University, Micron's recently introduced online training resource that offers hundreds of instructor-led courses as well as support and web-based community resources.
