Softlink Technology Becomes Driving Force in Multimedia Databases Introduced by NIC as New Communications Standard for Honda, Sumitomo, Minolta and More

January 20, 1999 09:48 AM
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1999--Softlink, Inc. SFLK today announces a landmark agreement to license its audio technology to NIC Ltd. of Japan.

According to the terms of the agreement, NIC will apply the technology to all of its future products, including forthcoming releases of its Graphic Manager, a multimedia database with image processing capability. The agreement paves the way for the migration of Softlink technology from a powerful multimedia tool for e-mail to its establishment as a corporate communication standard on a broader scale.

Both companies' presidents expressed their enthusiasm about the agreement. NIC's president, Go Eijin, said of the deal, "We are committed to the inclusion of Softlink's unique audio compression technology, which gives our software the best in fully voice-enabled multimedia functionality."

Softlink's president, Johnson Lee, noted the success of his company's E-Mail PossaLink (formerly called PowerLink) and E-mail VoiceLink Software -- which are the fourth and fifth best-selling software in Japan in their class. He added, "Having pioneered a new standard for e-mail communication, we are very excited to be partners with NIC in establishing a new standard for corporate communications with the advent of the multimedia-enabled database."

Founded in 1968, NIC is a well-established CD-ROM and software developer and publisher active in the educational, architectural, construction, and manufacturing markets. NIC, whose previous titles include Cavad and PhotoQuest, currently provides multimedia database and related services to Honda Motor Corp. HMC , Sumitomo Construction Corp., Tokyo University, Minolta Digital Studio, and two of the largest construction companies in Japan: Shimizu and Kashima Corp.s.

NIC also has well-established partnerships with Mediakite and Computerwave, as well as with Japan's largest software distributor, Softbank, and with two of Japan's top three publishers, Kodansha and Shogakukan Corp. Further information about NIC is available at: www.nic-j.com.
