Trey, given today's new press release, available at:

biz.yahoo.com

it should shed some new light for you on the Split Pea situation. Between the lines the press release seems to be basically saying, they dumped SuRF. Period. Which probably means new customers aren't given the option of using the 5.0 client software that only 6 months ago Peapod was touting in press releases. Which can only mean that a) users didn't want to install a client, despite the speed/interactivity advantages -- they want the web, dammit -- and/or b) Wall Street frowned on the proprietary nature of Peapod -- they especially want the web, dammit :-)

Basically, Peapod was an online grocery services company struggling to come to terms with its inner child -- an inner child that wanted to be a software company. Can't have it both ways. I think Peapod made the right decision.

If (and one very much hopes) the Split Pea crew can pull off a miracle and find some customers and raise some money and continue to invent cool and useful stuff, then Peapod shareholders still benefit.

The toughest part for Split Pea has gotta be the fact that the mothership is no longer promoting their software to customers. How they put a "spin" on that when talking to other potential SuRF adopters will be key to Split Pea's early success, in my opinion.
