Since ESS's video processor has a built in high speed digital interface, as long as you have a digitized input coming from a cable head-end, you cn put up a cable set-top system rather quickly. The tasks are in the software and firmware development. ESS has a first class firmware/software team in house. They program the video processor with mostly C language since the CPU is a friendly MIPS-X RISC CPU. The only concern I have is the product may be to China-centric, i.e., doubt very much that TCI could use it in the US market. But who knows? Maybe ESS can have a near-monopoly of the China cable market and let G.I., ST Micro, LSI, C-Cube and Broadcom fight for the US market. Steve
