I forgot to tell you I am in the hi-tech industry. What Microsoft says about the Y2K boom/bust is indeed true. Some customers say they won't buy any new software or hardware in the second half of the year (and after THAT, the real Y2K date arrives which may provide other interruptions). Instead, there is a bubble of extra spending now. The question is whether that bubble is already moving past us.

...the bottom line is this is a different kind of warning based on customer spending plans, not the general warning Microsoft gives...
