I agree that math isn't a requirement for being a doctor, although I wouldn't trust myself to calculate drug dosages without someone else double-checking me.
But, I couldn't pass the pre-med classes that required math. I couldn't pass a math class in college. I haven't passed a mass class since Geometry, in the tenth grade. I couldn't pass a physics class that required math, although I did fine in a physics class that was geared towards non-scientists. I received special dispensation by taking , and acing, Symbolic Logic and computer programming classes.
The funny thing is that I can handle mathematical concepts fine. I made a 701 on the math part of the SAT. My physics professor told me that I intuitively understood concepts that it took days to teach others. But, I just can't handle numbers. I am kinda like an idiot savant in reverse.
Idiot savants are preternaturally smart about one thing, and really stupid about everything else. I am really stupid about numbers, and really smart about everything else. That may be why I married my husband. He is very good at math, A's in calculus, advanced math, applied math, etc. But I still do the taxes. Then he double checks the math. Well, until we got Turbo-tax. |
