The thing about the Internet-accessed TV program guides is you have to be online to use them. The Win98 method downloads the guides via PBS's VBI and caches them on your HD (of course it won't do this while you're watching another channel, and you need to leave your PC on all the time).
Also, Win98's Program Guide viewer uses large-GUI features to make it easy to use use a remote keyboard/mouse in a living room setting, ie: WebTV.

Another Broadcast Architecture user, besides Intellecast-enhanced programming, is the WaveTop service from WavePhore (download the newer viewer here wavetop.net , this can also be used with Win95 and a tuner card.)
This free service sends you 'filtered Net content' from specific data providers via VBI throughout the day without needing to be online. Since it is cached locally it appears on your screen fast.

Programmers are still working out the bugs to make all of these various TV/PC functions work well together... so don't be surprised if your PC freezes when switching between these apps, or your machine seems slower with them running in the background.
