This is absolutely correct and roundly ignored by those who criticize Reagan's deficits.
What is equally ignored by those wishing to remove Clinton from office, is that these same legislators did not pursue impeachment against a president who broke the law by fomenting war in Central America and by selling weapons to Iranian "terrorists".
These acts subvert the advise and consent functions of the legislative branch of the federal government, while Clinton's alleged acts are alleged to subvert Ken Starr's persecution (I mean prosecution) of the president. I think the severity of Clinton's alleged offences is pretty slight compared to the severity of
Reagan's admitted ones.
The difference is, it seems to me, that the congress in that time had a trait known as "dignity" whereas this one does not. This is also why (again, merely my opinion) Clinton maintains his popularity while this congress does not. Those who feel that it is ignorance or stupidity that explains this phenomenom must then explain why the republicans have a majority in congress in the first place?
There certainly are plenty of people who don't like Clinton, they had two opportunities to vote against him, and he'll be gone in two years. The guy is clearly a real jacka$$, but that is no barrier to him finishing his term, as has been proven before.
