TP,

His plan calls for selling that land at fair market value. The people currently using it (through incredibly cheap leases and fees) would be screaming bloody murder at losing their cushy deals. The Forest Service spends more building and maintaining logging roads then they get in fees from that logging. We would be farther ahead if we just gave the land to the loggers and the timberlands would be treated a lot better. If the ranchers in the west had to pay fair market value for leasing public land most of the beef sold in this country would be raised east of the Mississipi because the ranchers out west couldn't compete.

Your comment proves you know nothing about Harry Browne or the current giveaway going on in the use of public lands.

Have you seen what grazing, logging and mining are doing to public lands? If you have seen it and you really want to save it for the grandkids you should be advocating the sale. Private grazing lands and private timberlands are (almost without exception) in better shape in terms of diversity and sustainability then the adjacent public lands. They also generate tax revenue for local governments to fund roads, fire departments, cops, ambulances, etc.
