ASCT - something serious actually -

Okay, let's say (hope/pray/whatever) that a buyout does occur. Let's say that copy XYZ releases a statement that they are buying ASCT for $10/share. What happens next? Do we sell into that news? Do we sell for less than or equal to 10?

The only stock I've held during a buyout was a tender offer, so I just got the tender price. How else is this handled when trying to lock in your gains? Thanks
