Planet Digital Network Technologies chooses U.S. Robotics' Total Control Enterprise Network Hub as strategic platform for Internet, remote access and voice services
SKOKIE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 1997--
New Internet Communications Service Provider to Support Multiple
Services, Including U.S. Robotics' x2(TM) Technology, Through ATM
Worldwide remote access leader U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ: USRX) today announced that Planet Digital Network Technologies (PDNT), a new Internet communications service provider offering Internet, Intranet, local and long distance voice services, has selected the Total Control(TM) Enterprise Network Hub as its exclusive communications platform. PDNT went online using Total Control servers January 7, 1997, and will offer U.S. Robotics' x2 technology for 56 Kbps in the first quarter of 1997.
"Today's practice of buying dedicated voice, data and video circuits will change long-term as services merge," said Carlos Ramirez, chief technical officer for PDNT. "We are bringing tomorrow's technology to customers today by providing an infrastructure for the future with our broad-based ATM backbone. The flexible bandwidth we will offer through Total Control gives users a new medium for Internet, local and long distance telephone service, voice, data and video applications from a single provider, reducing overall costs."
PDNT to Support x2: Simple Software Download
The Enterprise Network Hub will allow PDNT to offer U.S. Robotics' x2 technology to its customers who want to access the Internet or Intranets at higher speeds. x2 is U.S. Robotics' new revolutionary modem technology that increases data download speeds from the 28.8 or 33.6 Kbps standard to up to 53-56 Kbps, for maximum speed over analog telephone lines.
"We chose the Total Control chassis for its ease of management and ability to support a variety of applications for our customers, which include x2 technology, ISDN, as well as ATM, on a single platform," said Tom Adamek, president of PDNT. "We see x2 as the next step to providing multiple services from a central site, and Total Control gives us the capability to meet that demand with 56Kbps technology deployment nationwide."
Total Control's flexible architecture will allow PDNT to quickly and easily offer 56Kbps technology with x2. The company can upgrade its Total Control equipment to x2 with a simple software download.
"Our Enterprise Network Hub is the premier platform for Internet access, in part because of its software-upgradable, modular design, which allows for future expansion to new technologies such as x2 and ATM," said Ross Manire, senior vice president and general manager of U.S. Robotics' Network Systems Division. "Using our chassis, PDNT has the ability to easily and cost-effectively adapt to new environments."
Total Control also provides hot-swappability, for maximum up-time on every port; a variety of SNMP management tools, including Auto Response; redundant power supplies; a complete range of technical support options; and NEBS compliance, for a total package that supplies customers the most fault-tolerant product on the market.
PDNT will be one of the world's largest Internet game sites dedicated to high speed hosting through ATM multiple redundant Internet connections providing its customers the fastest most reliable access to the Internet. PDNT provides unlimited flexible bandwidth for tomorrow's technologies (data, voice, and video) today with the latest ATM switching and routing equipment offering the best services available.
