Im 35, LoD. Id love to manage my own SS money... and I wouldnt even mind tossing all the prior contributions I made (which were always at the maximum) in order to do so.

Of course my optimum solution is that there is no SS or retirement program at all, where everyone is responsible for their own financial support, unregulated. Then the welfare program (which we still need, every civilized country needs to take care of their underclasses) can include the elderly poor. I prefer this because entitlements for poor people will never garner the political support that entitlements for the middle class will. Well, I can dream cant I?
