You can never have enough bandwidth. The cost of bandwidth
is dropping so fast that if you have two technologies, that cost
almost the same, always go with the one that offers the best bandwidth
potential or you won't be competitive in a few years. Network Transport
of Video, Voice and Data are converging and if you want to provide
High Definition TV and Video Conferencing, etc, at a reasonable price to large
scale markets three years from now, you better choose the right technology now.
Because if you don't, the guy that does, will blow you away in the marketplace
with a high quality low cost service. Televisions, Computers and Phones are
merging and the result will be a device that sucks up enormous amounts
bandwidth programming. The content is just now beginning to be created
and will snowball in coming years. The inferior ADSL products on the
market should be viewed as a short term fix, with the big push in ADSL coming
in 97 when the low cost high performance ADSL is due out. I would think
the phone companies would be focusing their energies on accelerating
the design and production schedules through expediting fees and other means,
because this technology could give them a huge advantage in the marketplace.
Content will continue to push the envelope and as bandwidth opens up
we should see tremendous growth in little software companies emerging
to fill the cyberspace created by greater bandwidth.
